Tour 1: The Intersection of Housing, Health, and International Borders
Capacity is 50 people
Join us for a bus tour to the San Ysidro area on the border with Mexico. With Stephen Russell, CEO of the San Diego Housing Federation, as tour guide, we will visit Casa Familiar and San Ysidro Senior Village. The tour will focus on the challenges and successes of providing housing and services along the international border as well as the ways these local organizations are addressing health needs along with providing affordable homes. Following the tours of the San Ysidro area, we will take the bus back to the Town and Country venue, arriving by 4:30 p.m. Purchase your tickets here.
Tour 2: The Intersection of Art and Cultural Identity and Housing along with Transit Oriented Development
Capacity is 30 people
On this tour we will travel by trolley to the Barrio Logan San Diego’s oldest Mexican-American neighborhood. We’ll visit COMM22, a transit-oriented development (TOD) with 130 affordable homes, with co-developers, Bridge Housing and MAAC as our tour guides. Our group will then take a 10 minute walk to Estrella del Mercado part of a mixed use TOD that includes a latino supermarket and 92 affordable family apartments. Staff from Chelsea Investment Corp will tell us about this development. Finally, we’ll walk to Chicano Park, home to the largest concentration of Chicano murals in the world. Following the tours of Barrio Logan, we will take the trolley back to Town and Country venue, arriving by 5:00 p.m.. Purchase your tickets here.

Q: Do I need to purchase tour tickets in advance?
A: Yes, Tour #1 has a maximum capacity of 50 people and Tour #2 has a maximum capacity of 30 people. We encourage you to purchase your tickets in advance.

Q: What is the timing of the tours?
A: Tours will take place Monday, March 27. Tour participants should plan to meet the group, near conference registration by 12:30 pm. Both tours will depart at 1:00 pm and return by 4:30 pm.
Q: Will the tours provide lunch?
A: No, only light snacks will be provided on each tour, participants should plan to have lunch before the tour begins.
Q: Will the tours involve walking?
A: Tour 1 is a bus tour, and will only require some walking getting to and from the bus and tour site(s). Tour 2 will involve transportation by trolley and will require some walking. Participants of both tours should plan to wear comfortable shoes.
Q: Will tours be canceled if there is bad weather?
A: We hope for beautiful San Diego weather, however in the case of rainy weather, we will unfortunately have to cancel Tour 2. Tour 1 is a bus tour and should continue as scheduled.
