Rene AlexZander, Tenant Leader, Hillside Villa Tenant Association and Chinatown Community for Equitable Development
Rene AlexZander is a tenant leader of Hillside Villa Tenants Association who has lived in Hillside Villa for 17 years. He and his husband Greg Glenos were activists during the AIDS pandemic and now find themselves enduring the COVID pandemic and fighting the eviction crisis. Together they have been organizing with his neighbors to fight against a 200% rent increase by a landlord who took advantage of public money and the failure of CRA policies. They are demanding Los Angeles City Council to use Eminent Domain to keep their homes affordable.
